Maligne Lake

Maligne Lake is a lake in the Rocky Mountains, located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is famed for the colour of its water, the surrounding peaks, the three glaciers visible from the lake - Charlton-Unwin, Maligne, and Coronet - and its small Spirit Island.

The lake sits at approximately 1,670 metres, not far from Maligne Mountain, Mount Unwin, Charlton,  Mary Vaux  and Paul as well as Llysfran, Leah and Samson Peak. It is approximately 22.5 kilometres long and has a maximum width of 1.5 kilometres. At its deepest point, the lake reaches 97 metres in depth in the south end of the lake, in average 35 metres.

Maligne Lake is fed and drained by the Maligne River, which enters the lake on its south side and drains the lake to the north.

Being fed with glacier water by Maligne River, the water temperature of Maligne Lake never exceeds 4° Celsius.
